Dr. John P. Brizzolara at Arkansas Urology - (501) 219-8900 (Little Rock, Arkansas)
- My husband was 26 when he got his vasectomy approved with no-more-than-standard-questions asked. No bingoisms, no hassle - we went in confident in our decision, and he respected that and immediately began to explain the procedure - and then booked the surgery. The office was clean and quiet, and the staff was friendly. The morning-of, it took 45m from start (final paperwork) to finish (icebag on crotch). When my husband had to go back about 2wks later for a small swelling flare-up (he decided he didn't reeaaaallly need those antibiotics...bah), Dr. Brizzolara got him in the very same day, addressed the issue, and everything was back to awesome within two days. Excellent experience all-around.
...I would post contact info for my amazing OBGYN doc who performed my elective "partial hysterectomy," but he retired. :(
Somone passed this information on to me:
On vasectomy info - Dr. Kurt Helgerson in southwest Michigan does non-surgical vasectomies (where they enter through a puncture, not an incision) for around $400. My husband loved him; he's very adept and gave my husband no trouble about his age (27 at the time) or marital status (casually dating). We've since referred several friends to Dr. Helgerson (all in their mid-20s) and they've all had very positive experiences.

I was 25 at the time. We discussed his world of warcraft level 60 warlock during the procedure. Very pleasant experience.
Tulsa OBGYN:
Mark G. Martens, MD
(918) 619-4200 (women's clinic) (918) 582-0721 (private practice)
Special Interests: Infections in Pregnancy Vulvovaginitis Minimally Invasive Uterine Ablation (Non-hysterectomy) Transcervical Tubal Sterilization Sterilization by Tubal Occlusion (Essure) Osteoporosis
Comments: Mark has sterilized two childfree friends of mine, as well as offering them ablations at the same time. He provides thorough and excellent counseling and aftercare, is very available to his patients for questions once you've gotten in to see him, and is an all-round great guy.
He can be hard to get in to see and often runs late; he specializes in high-risk pregnancies, and is the best obstetrical surgeon in the area, so he's busy. Very worth the wait, and again, once you're in with him, he's quite accessible for things that most doctors aren't. Like answering questions or following up. He called my friend out of the blue on a weekend to check on her after her surgery. When I picked her up after another procedure, he carefully explained aftercare to me, twice, and answered my annoying questions, then did it again when she came out. I can't praise him enough.
It's worth noting that the fact that he specializes in high-risk pregnancies means that no sick people are allowed in his waiting areas; there are far fewer loose children wandering about his practice than is usual.
Claremore (Tulsa area) Urologist:
Clark J. Tingleaf, MD
(918) 341-1311
Special Interests: No-scalpel Vasectomy
Comments: Dr. Tingleaf sterilized my husband. He's open to the idea of working with childfree people, though it seemed that our long marriage and the fact that pregnancy would be very dangerous to me contributed to his comfort at agreeing to perform the procedure.
He's one of the most personally likeable doctors I have ever met, very easy to talk to, and very easy to listen. His staff are all wonderful and sweet, though his beautiful personal assistant is a bit of a dragon (I like her, I'm just sayin').
Suzanne Trupin, M.D., F.A.C.O.G. Women's Health Practice 2125 S. Neil Champaign, Illinois 61820 217-356-3736 http://www.womenshealthpractice.comDo you also perform the Essure procedure? Do you have requirements a woman must meet before agreeing to consider performing a tubal -- such as a minimum age or having a minimum number of children? --- Thanks for writing. Yes we do Essure, and no we don't have specific criteria for offering sterilization other than complying with the state regulations for women who get their procedures paid for by the state (Illinois Public Aid)., for public aic to cover you do have to be 21. Many insurance companies do now cover Essure, up until recently the uncovered portion of the procedure was a barrier for many women. Beyond that we try to give you a comprehensive understanding of your choices and then allow you to select. Thanks. ST
Hah! I was going to post this so I guess I'll just second it instead.
This doctor is awesome! Her nurses are super-nice too. I was offered both the Essure procedure and a tubal ligation (which I chose).
A friend told me about a clinic in Houston, Texas today. Drs. Christina Parmudji & Dr. Paul Cook who gave him no problems getting a vasectomy. Here's the link: http://www.houston-urology.com/

In Harlingen/Brownsville, Dr Danilo Asase is most excellent with the vasectomies. Not much in the way of bingos or anything beyond "you do understand this is permanent." He even let me (the wife) watch. Oh, and they call him "Asase the Assassin" because he makes it damn near impossible to reverse. It cost us a grand total of a copay with Blue Cross ($30)
Dr. Danilo Asase (956) 428-6871 (Harlingen)
---------- McAllen - Essure
Dr. John O'Connor is an excellent ob/gyn and agreed to an Essure on the first visit, without a single bingo at all. He's very professional and very nice (he's my first male doctor). He did laugh at me when I was confused because I had all of the papers regarding (no) regretting the procedure and arguments ready to go, and he didn't fight. He seems to love delivering babies, and yet will laugh at the bad baby jokes I make (he has beautiful glass art in his office, too). He's originally from Houston (why I picked him, actually)

Tubal ligation:
Dr. Stanley Friedell Women's Health Associates Chicago, IL (312) 440-9400
Absolutely no bingoing, very experienced surgeon. Works out of Northwestern Memorial's Prentice Women's Hospital. Does NOT take HMOs.
Mirena
Scott M. Peterson, MD Bronson OB/GYN Associates 3300 West Centre Portage, MI 49024 Phone: (269) 327-2211 Fax: (269) 327-0273
I was having certain female issues (will spare you the details) and when I mentioned I don't want children/reliable birth control and he recommended I get Mirena to fix the issue at hand and to use as bc. I haven't done it yet, but he has no problem giving it to people that don't want, nor have had, children. (Note: I'm only 22 so still at an age where people "change their minds" *eyeroll*)
When I mentioned I never want kids, he said that they aren't for everyone. Then I told him that it would be dumb for me to have kids because of my health risks and that if children are so important, then more people should adopt rather than risk their lives for their DNA, he actually said it was a very mature thought and that more people should have that sort of attitude. I was taken seriously, not a bingo in sight!
Not sure if he does other procedures but if he has this attitude about cf people then he would probably be more willing to do them.
for the Essure I had, I went to
Shireen Jayne (262) 670-4824 Synergy Health Care 402 West Sumner St Hartford, WI 53027
she never bingoed, very casual about someone never wanting kids. a very friendly woman who made what could've been a scary procedure a lot easier. I highly recommend her.
I had originally called to schedule an appointment with Dr. Cassing Hammond, whom I hear is awesome (someone said he spoke at her school on the Roe v. Wade anniversary). However, the day that worked the best for me was a day when he would be coming off of a night shift, so my Essure was actually scheduled with Dr. Susan Tsai, who was awesome! I was told that she specializes in minimally invasive surgery and has done hundreds of Essures. I had my consult at the Northwestern Memorial Faculty Foundation building (NMH campus, Galter Pavilion) and the procedure was done at the Prentice Memorial Women's Hospital. Here's Dr. Tsai's info: Dr. Susan Tsai, MD NMFF 675 North St. Clair Street Chicago, Illinois 60611-2923 (312) 695-7382 And you can find an account of my experience here: http://community.livejournal.com/sterilizationqa/77504.htmlBE WARNED: The NP that I had to go through to get the procedure bingoed the HELL out of me. Her name was Debbie. I had the procedure done at 30 and my husband was already sterile (vasectomy over a year prior) and this woman STILL gave me a ridiculously hard time (see my story about that here: http://community.livejournal.com/sterilizationqa/77183.html) If you're younger, I imagine you'd have to put up an even bigger fight. It's really a shame because Dr. Tsai and the staff at Prentice were amazing. At my two week post-op recheck, I plan to discuss her attitude with Dr. Tsai.
(Copied/pasted from a post by janusdog) Tubal ligation done with absolutely no bingoing whatsoever -- I'm 36. He has done many, many tubals and prefers the bands, won't use clips. (FYI, boyfriend is almost 26, no kids.) The doctor seems pretty reasonable, but you'll need to have your ducks in a row and be prepared to state your case.
(Copied/pasted from a post made by hipxlikexjunk) I went in for Mirena and when I left, I was scheduled for Essure. Dr. April Harris Gynics Associates www.gynics.com 1007 E 41st St Austin, TX 78751 (512) 451-3131 She is a wonderful doctor.
Dr. Michele Gilbert http://www.rwgdocs.com/docs/mgilbert.htmlRenaissance Women's Group Austin, Texas 512-425-3845 All of the doctors at Renaissance Women's Group offer the Essure procedure. I chose Dr. Gilbert based on some reviews I found of her online and the fact that she is endorsed/recommended by a local gay/bi/trans youth organization. In my very first visit with her we discussed my desire to be sterilized. (I was 25 at the time of this discussion.) She indicated that she believes in patient autonomy and if I wanted to do it that I could go ahead and schedule the procedure with her office. We did it a little more than a month after our initial appointment. I should note that this office does the Essure procedure in a surgical suite under sedation. I didn't realize until afterwards that many offices don't do this. However, I am glad that they did as I had a few complications that would have been very painful / scary if I had been awake for it.

After December 18, 2009, Dr. Gilbert will not be a practicing gynocologist.
Dr. Richard M Bennett 1270 N Post Rd Indianapolis, IN 46219
No bingos, no hassles. My husband is 28 and I'm 26.
Thanks so much! Is this guy a gyno or a urologist?
I do not think that he is a gyno. But I could be totally wrong as I have not (aggressively) looked into getting myself sterilized yet.
The clinic they performed it at is listed as a urology clinic though, so my assumption would be strictly urology. (Deleted comment) (Deleted comment)

That's fine. I was just suggested to post it here to warn people against going to her, but if you feel it's inappropriate, I understand ;^^
Conway Urology in Conway, Arkansas will do no-needle, no-scalpel vasectomies. I've had two different sources tell me that they won't reject you even if you're young.
Their website with information can be found at www.conwayurology.com
For essure:
Dr. Lisa A Lorenzetti, MD, Obstetrics & Gynecology Women's Clinic Associates, PA 8919 Parallel Pkwy, Suite 580 Kansas City, Kansas 66112 913-788-9797
I called and asked if they would do essure for me (at 27) and the nurse seemed hesitant, but still scheduled a consultation for me. I had the consultation today, and Dr. Lorenzetti was awesome — no bingos at all! Procedure to come soon.
Also got a call back from another clinic in the area about a tubal ligation and the nurse said I could call if the first doctor didn't pan out. Looks like I won't be needing to.
